Two Detainees Escape Colorado ICE Facility During Power Outage

Joel Jose Gonzalez-Gonzalez and Geilond Vido-Romero remain at large as ICE collaborates with state and federal partners in an ongoing search.

Joel Jose Gonzalez-Gonzalez, 32, and Geilond Vido-Romero, 24, escaped from the Denver Contract Detention Facility in Aurora, Colorado, on March 18, 2025.
The escape occurred during a power outage at the facility, with staff confirming the detainees were missing during an emergency count around midnight.
Local law enforcement, including the Aurora Police Department and county sheriff's offices, either declined to assist or were not contacted by ICE for the search.
The facility's power outage, which began at 9:30 p.m. on March 18, is believed to have facilitated the escape, with back doors reportedly left open.
ICE has involved state and federal law enforcement partners in the search, but the escapees remain at large as of March 20, 2025.
