Two New York Hospitals Resume Emergency Admissions Following Cyberattack
HealthAlliance Hospital and Margaretville Hospital recover from cyberattacks with emergency services operational again, while investigations into the source of the attack continue.
- Two New York hospitals, HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston and Margaretville Hospital, have resumed emergency services after a crippling cyberattack. The hospitals, along with Mountainside Residential Care Center, a nursing facility, had to shut down their computer systems to investigate.
- During the cyberattack, ambulances were diverted from the affected hospitals, causing additional strain on their operations. This diversion ended on Saturday night and the hospitals started admitting patients again.
- The hospitals, managed by the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, responded to the attack by the network’s IT experts shutting the systems down and restarting them, a process that is still ongoing.
- Despite the restoration of most services, emergency stroke patients will still temporarily be taken to other area hospitals for care, reflecting ongoing challenges in restoring full operations.
- The investigation into the source of the devastating cyberattack continues, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity measures in the healthcare sector.
