Two Skiers Killed in Separate Alberta Avalanches

Unrelated avalanches in Lake Louise and Kananaskis backcountry claimed lives on Friday as rescue efforts concluded.

One skier died after triggering an avalanche while skiing out of bounds near Lake Louise Ski Resort, where they were buried under two meters of snow.
The second skier in the Lake Louise incident managed to extricate the victim and perform first aid, but the individual was later pronounced dead by emergency services.
A separate avalanche in Kananaskis Country's Black Prince day-use area also resulted in the death of another skier on Friday afternoon.
The Lake Louise Ski Resort has been closed, and RCMP confirmed all other guests have been accounted for following search and rescue efforts.
Avalanche Canada reported that recent heavy snowfall and unstable conditions likely contributed to the incidents, with investigations ongoing.
