UAE Rejects South African Extradition Request for Gupta Brothers

South Africa sought to extradite Atul and Rajesh Gupta to face charges of political corruption, fraud, and money laundering related to their ties to former President Jacob Zuma.
The extradition request was denied by a UAE court which claimed jurisdiction over the money laundering charges.
South Africa plans to appeal the decision in order to hold the Guptas accountable for their alleged corruption.
The Guptas are accused of using their connections to Zuma to win state contracts and fraudulently appropriate funds.
