UAW Ratifies New Contract with Ford, GM, and Stellantis, Ending Strikes

The new contracts will raise industry pay, bring EV battery plants into the national union contract, and force automakers to absorb higher costs.

  • The United Auto Workers union has ratified a new contract with Ford, along with similar deals with General Motors and Stellantis, ending six-week-long strikes at all three automakers.
  • The new contracts, which run through April 2028, will raise pay across the industry and force automakers to absorb higher costs.
  • Top assembly plant workers are to receive immediate 11% raises and will earn roughly $42 an hour when the contracts expire in April of 2028.
  • The automakers also agreed to bring new electric-vehicle battery plants into the national union contract, giving the UAW an opportunity to unionize these plants.
  • Three non-union, foreign automakers in the United States — Honda, Toyota and Hyundai — quickly responded to the UAW contract by raising wages for their factory workers.
