UFC-Que Choisir Exposes Unlabeled Allergens in Household Products

The consumer group demands stricter labeling regulations for detergents and cleaning products containing potential allergens.

  • UFC-Que Choisir conducted tests on 60 cleaning products, revealing that 27 contain one or more new allergens not listed on their labels.
  • Current regulations require labeling of 26 known allergens, but do not cover an additional 31 substances identified by the association.
  • Only one product out of the 60 tested mentioned the presence of these allergens on its packaging.
  • Some products marketed as 'hypoallergenic' or for 'sensitive skin' were found to contain these undisclosed allergens.
  • The association calls for immediate regulatory changes to include these allergens on detergent labels and to restrict misleading claims about product safety.
