Ukraine and UK Sign Landmark Security Agreement

The comprehensive pact, first of its kind with a NATO country, spans multiple dimensions and sets a model for Ukraine's ongoing negotiations with other nations.

  • Ukraine and the United Kingdom have signed a comprehensive security agreement, the first of its kind between Ukraine and a NATO country. The agreement spans land, air, sea, political, and cyberspace dimensions and is set to last for a decade.
  • The UK has committed to bolster Ukraine’s defense sector with a financial injection of GBP 2.5 billion, including GBP 200 million for state-of-the-art drones and weapons.
  • The agreement also includes cooperation in enhancing sanctions policy, bolstering cybersecurity, and efforts to document and prevent war crimes.
  • Ukraine is using the agreement with the UK as a model for similar agreements with other countries. Negotiations with Romania have begun, marking the ninth country with which Ukraine is conducting such bilateral work.
  • Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has stated that about 30 countries, including G7 members, are ready to establish a security partnership with Ukraine.
