UN urged to demand release of jailed US reporter facing espionage charges in Russia

Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has asked the UN to state he was arbitrarily detained.
Gershkovich's lawyers say Russia has provided no evidence to support espionage accusations.
The Journal alleges Putin is using Gershkovich as leverage against the US.
The Journal hopes the UN will state Russia violated international law and demand release.
Gershkovich is the first American reporter charged with espionage in Russia since 1986.
