Underground Fire Breaks Out Near Newly Renovated Tiffany & Co. Flagship Store in Manhattan, Forcing Evacuation and Causing Smoke

An electrical fire started in a utility vault next to Tiffany & Co.'s flagship store on New York's Fifth Avenue, causing smoke to pour from the building and 100 people to evacuate.
The fire was contained to the vault, with two minor injuries reported, and did not spread to the store itself, which had recently completed expensive renovations.
Surrounding buildings were inspected, and the fire was declared under control by noon.
Tiffany & Co. is expected to open later today after inspection by the fire marshal.
The Tiffany building is located next to Trump Tower, and the Fifth Avenue store accounts for 10% of Tiffany & Co.'s worldwide sales.
