Despite Public Advocacy for Mental Health, Circumstances Leading to Young's Suicide Remain Unclear

US Army Staff Sergeant and fitness influencer, Michelle Young, died by suicide at the age of 34, leaving behind her 12-year-old daughter, Gracie.
Young had a following of over 100,000 on Instagram where she advocated for improved mental health treatment for US army veterans and modeled for fashion brands.
Young's suicide comes as a shock to her friends and followers, as she had been a public advocate for mental health, revealing that her older brother had taken his own life when she was 14 years old.
Young served in the army for 16 years, completing two tours in Afghanistan, and was also a crisis trauma response volunteer at her local shelter.
In response to Young's death, over $30,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe page, with the funds designated to directly support her daughter, Gracie.
