U.S. Government Auctioning and Donating Historic Lighthouses to Ensure Their Preservation

Ten historic lighthouses along U.S. coastlines and waterways are being donated or auctioned off by the federal government.
Six lighthouses will be donated at no cost to government agencies, nonprofits, and educational groups that agree to maintain them.
Four other lighthouses will be sold at public auction, including one with views of the Cleveland skyline.
The lighthouse giveaways and auctions are part of an effort to preserve the historic structures, many of which have fallen into disrepair.
Over 150 lighthouses have been donated or sold since 2000 through the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act.
