US Government Provides $1.7 Billion for Electric and Low-Emission Transit Buses

The Department of Transportation awarded $1.7 billion in grants to transit agencies and state and local governments to purchase 1,700 American-built buses, nearly half of which will be zero-emission.
The funding comes from the bipartisan infrastructure law signed by President Biden.
The new buses will improve public health by reducing diesel emissions and will be easier to maintain.
There were 475 proposals for the grants totaling $8.7 billion, showing high demand.
The investment will at least double the number of zero-emission transit buses in the U.S. and support jobs in manufacturing and operations.
