US Man Indicted on Charges of Murder, Rape at Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle.

31-year-old Michigan native, identified by some reports as Troy Bohling, faces life imprisonment if convicted for violent assault on two American women at popular tourist site in June; one victim survived, the other did not.

  • A 31-year-old Michigan man, reportedly identified as Troy Bohling, has been indicted on charges of murder, rape, attempted murder, and possession of child pornography in Germany for a violent assault on two American women near Neuschwanstein Castle in June.
  • Prosecutors say Bohling met the women, aged 21 and 22, by chance on a hiking path and lured them off the trail before sexually attacking the younger woman. When her friend tried to intervene, a struggle ensued and both women were pushed into a deep ravine.
  • The younger woman, identified in some reports as Eva Liu, died of her injuries, while her older friend, reported to be Kelsey Chang, survived. Liu was strangled until unconscious, raped, and then pushed down the ravine, resulting in her death.
  • After being identified by a local witness, Bohling was apprehended the same day following a large-scale manhunt involving more than 25 police vehicles. Scratches were reportedly visible across his face at the time of his arrest.
  • Investigators have also seized Bohling's laptop and cellphones, which were found to contain child sexual abuse material.
  • The case has been filed at the state court in Kempten, Germany, which will now decide whether and when to send the case to trial. If convicted, Bohling faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in Germany.
