USAID Halts Food Aid to Tigray After Reports of Diverted Shipments Sold Locally

USAID has paused food assistance to the Tigray region of Ethiopia after discovering that the aid was being sold on the local market.
The aid was intended for the people of Tigray suffering under famine-like conditions.
The pause will continue until oversight measures are in place to ensure assistance reaches the intended vulnerable populations.
Other vital assistance not implicated in the diversion scheme will continue.
The first round of peace talks between Ethiopia's government and the Oromo Liberation Army concluded without any concrete agreements.
