Uzbek Leader Reelected to Third Term, Plans Economic and Political Reforms

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the incumbent president of Uzbekistan, won reelection to a third term with 87.1% of the vote.
Mirziyoyev aims to open Uzbekistan's economy to foreign investment and double the GDP.
He has begun implementing political and economic reforms, easing restrictive policies of the previous administration.
Though Uzbekistan remains authoritarian, there have been some improvements in human rights under Mirziyoyev.
Mirziyoyev will remain in power until at least 2030 according to the election results.
