VfL Bochum Challenges Match Result After Goalkeeper Incident

The Bundesliga club has filed an official protest following a 25-minute game interruption caused by an object thrown from the stands.

  • VfL Bochum has lodged an official protest against the 1-1 match result in their Bundesliga game against Union Berlin on Saturday.
  • The game was interrupted for over 25 minutes after Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was struck by a lighter thrown from the Union fan section, forcing him off the field due to injury.
  • With all substitutions exhausted, Bochum fielded striker Philipp Hofmann as a temporary goalkeeper before the game resumed.
  • The German Football Association (DFB) is reviewing statements from all parties involved and will decide on further actions; an independent investigation into Union Berlin's fan conduct has also been launched.
  • Separately, Bochum midfielder Koji Miyoshi has been suspended for two matches after receiving a red card for a serious foul early in the same game.
