Violent Crimes Surge at German Train Stations, Berlin Leads in Offenses

The number of violent and sexual offenses at German train stations rose in 2024, with Berlin's Hauptbahnhof recording the highest incidents nationwide.

Berlin Hauptbahnhof reported the most violent incidents with 764 cases, followed by Dortmund (735), Hannover (715), and Cologne (703).
Sexual offenses at train stations increased by 19.18%, from 1,898 in 2023 to 2,262 in 2024, with Dortmund leading in these cases.
Drug-related offenses dropped significantly by 44.65% in 2024, likely influenced by the partial legalization of cannabis in April 2024.
Officials attributed the crime increase partly to higher train station traffic during the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, highlighting broader concerns over public safety.
