Virgin Atlantic and Joby Aviation have partnered to introduce electric air taxis in the UK, offering faster, zero-emission travel options.
The service will initially connect Heathrow and Manchester airports to nearby cities, with potential routes including Heathrow to Canary Wharf in just 8 minutes.
Joby's electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft can carry four passengers plus a pilot, travel up to 200 mph, and complete trips of up to 100 miles on a single charge.
Pricing is expected to align with premium ground ridesharing services, and bookings will be integrated into Virgin Atlantic's app and website.
Regulatory approval and infrastructure development, including vertiports, remain key hurdles before the service can launch, with a UK rollout expected after Joby’s launches in the UAE and U.S.
