Five Sisters Zoo Launches Fundraising for New Enclosure

Yampil, an Asiatic black bear and one of the few survivors of a bombed-out zoo in Ukraine, has been rehomed at Five Sisters Zoo in Scotland.
The bear was discovered by Ukrainian soldiers in 2022 in the village of Yampil, after surviving the Russian invasion and harsh conditions.
Before arriving in Scotland, Yampil was cared for by various animal welfare organizations, including Natuurhulpcentrum in Belgium and the White Rock Bear Shelter in Ukraine.
Five Sisters Zoo has launched a fundraising campaign to build a new enclosure for Yampil, with a target of £200,000. So far, £60,000 has been raised.
Yampil is the first Asiatic black bear that Five Sisters Zoo has cared for, and the first animal they've rescued from a war zone.
