Wayne Rooney parts ways with D.C. United after missing playoffs

Rooney and D.C. United mutually agreed to part ways after the club missed the MLS playoffs for the fourth straight year.
Rooney took over as D.C. United's head coach in July 2022 after playing for the club in 2018-2019.
D.C. United won their final match of the season 2-0 over New York City FC but could not qualify for the playoffs.
Rooney stated it was the right time to leave D.C. United and return to England.
D.C. United leadership thanked Rooney for his contributions and will search for a new coach to bring a new philosophy.
