New research indicates that about 20% of patients who stop using weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy regain their weight, with some even surpassing their original weight.
A majority of users, however, are able to maintain or even continue their weight loss after discontinuing the medication.
Despite the weight loss benefits, there are growing concerns about potential psychiatric side effects linked to these drugs, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
Although these side effects are relatively rare, accounting for only 1.2% of total reports, they are serious enough to warrant further investigation.
Unrelated research has also suggested that Ozempic might double as a liver cancer preventative for certain diabetes patients.
