Whitmer's Sister Launches Bid for New York Congressional Seat

Liz Gereghty, the sister of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, announced she is running as a Democrat for a New York congressional district.
Democrats view the seat as a top opportunity to defeat the Republican incumbent in the 2024 election.
Gereghty, who serves on a local school board, criticized Republican policies and said she would fight for issues like reproductive rights if elected.
President Biden will hold an event in the district to highlight differences with Republicans over raising the debt ceiling.
Two other Democrats, including a former congressman, are also running in the primary for the chance to unseat the Republican congressman.
The seat is located in the northern New York City suburbs and is considered a "toss-up" in the 2024 election.
