Windows 11 Tests New Start Menu Layouts for Better App Organization

Microsoft experiments with category and grid views to replace the current long list format in the Start menu.

The new category view groups apps into themed categories like entertainment and productivity.
A grid layout is also being tested, organizing apps alphabetically to reduce scrolling.
Both layouts are currently hidden in the beta build but show significant progress.
The category view can display up to 16 apps within a single category using mini-icons.
These changes aim to make app navigation more intuitive and efficient for users.
