Harry Eyres, a prominent wine critic, is suing former actress and dogsitter Kendra Torgan for negligence after his cockapoo, Ebony, was struck by a car outside her home in 2022.
Eyres claims Torgan failed to properly supervise the dog, allowing it to escape from her garden and run into the road, where it was hit by a car driven by a Dexters estate agent employee.
The collision left Ebony with severe spinal injuries requiring multiple surgeries, including spinal reconstruction with metal implants and screws, with treatment still ongoing.
Torgan denies responsibility, arguing the accident was unforeseeable and that Ebony forced the gate open herself; she has also suggested Eyres should pursue her dissolved company rather than her personally.
The legal battle, which also involves the estate agency, could result in costs exceeding £180,000, with a full trial scheduled for a later date.
