Winston, One of the Oldest Silverback Gorillas, Dies at 52

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park's beloved gorilla was euthanized after years of health complications.

Winston was a western lowland gorilla and a long-time resident of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
He had been treated for heart disease, degenerative joint disease, and kidney disease.
The decision to euthanize him was made to prevent further suffering due to declining health.
Winston fathered nine offspring and was also a grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was one of the first known great apes to survive COVID-19 and contributed significantly to gorilla conservation.
