Wizards Hire Clippers GM Michael Winger to Lead Franchise's Basketball Operations

  • Michael Winger has been hired as the president of Monumental Basketball, overseeing the Washington Wizards, the WNBA's Washington Mystics, and the G League's Capital City Go-Go.
  • Winger will replace Tommy Sheppard, who was fired as the Wizards' general manager last month, and take control of roster and coaching decisions for the Wizards franchise.
  • Winger has served as the general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers since 2017 and previously worked for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers.
  • Winger will inherit a Wizards team that has missed the playoffs the last two seasons and has key decisions to make regarding the contracts of Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma.
  • The Clippers will have to replace Winger, who was the second-highest ranking executive in their front office behind president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank.
