Wizards Hire Clippers GM Michael Winger to Lead Franchise's Basketball Operations

Michael Winger has been hired as the president of Monumental Basketball, overseeing the Washington Wizards, the WNBA's Washington Mystics, and the G League's Capital City Go-Go.
Winger will replace Tommy Sheppard, who was fired as the Wizards' general manager last month, and take control of roster and coaching decisions for the Wizards franchise.
Winger has served as the general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers since 2017 and previously worked for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Winger will inherit a Wizards team that has missed the playoffs the last two seasons and has key decisions to make regarding the contracts of Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma.
The Clippers will have to replace Winger, who was the second-highest ranking executive in their front office behind president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank.
