- Aleisia Owens, 20, has been charged with the homicide of her boyfriend's 18-month-old daughter, Iris Rita Alfera, who died from fatal levels of acetone in her blood.
- Authorities found that Owens had been researching harmful household products, beauty products, and medications that could cause serious harm or death to a child from February to June 2023.
- Prior to her death, Iris had ingested numerous harmful objects including water beads, button-shaped batteries, and a metal screw.
- Owens was living with Iris's father, Bailey Jacoby, at the time of the child's death. Jacoby has not been charged due to lack of evidence implicating him.
- Owens is currently being held without bond and faces additional charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.
