YouTuber Trevor Jacob Sentenced to Six Months in Prison for Staged Plane Crash
Jacob intentionally crashed his plane for a YouTube video, lied to investigators about the wreckage, and later destroyed it to obstruct a federal investigation.
- YouTuber Trevor Jacob has been sentenced to six months in prison for intentionally crashing his plane for a YouTube video and then lying about it to US investigators.
- Jacob, a former Olympic snowboarder, staged the crash as part of a sponsorship deal and posted the video, which has been viewed millions of times, in December 2021.
- Jacob reported the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board, but lied about the location of the wreckage, later returning to the site by helicopter to remove and destroy it.
- The Federal Aviation Administration revoked Jacob's pilot license in April 2022.
- Jacob pleaded guilty in June to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation.
