This marks Eflin’s second consecutive Opening Day start against Toronto, though he pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays in last year’s opener.
Eflin joined the Orioles midseason in 2024 and posted a 2.60 ERA over nine starts, solidifying his role as a key member of the rotation.
The decision was influenced by Grayson Rodriguez’s right elbow inflammation, which will sideline him to start the season.
Eflin becomes the ninth different Opening Day starter for Baltimore in the past 10 seasons, following the departure of 2024 ace Corbin Burnes in free agency.
